No matter how young or old you are, you deserve to be healthy.
At Bonfire we specialise in Wellness Chiropractic Care for the entire family. Chiropractic is the world’s largest non-surgical, non-drug prescribing, primary contact health care profession. It is a natural approach to health, based on the relationship between your spine and your nervous system with an emphasis on the removal of interferences to the body’s natural ability to heal.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is based on the scientific premise that the body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism, with these functions being controlled by the brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of the body.
Chiropractic looks at the relationship between your body’s structure, being primarily the spine and the pelvis, and your body’s function, coordinated by the nervous system. Nurturing this relationship can affect the preservation and restoration of your health. Basically, good health depends, in part, on a normally functioning nervous system.
Let’s look at how this works. When under the proper control of your nervous system, all the cells, tissue, and organs of your body are designed to function well and resist disease and ill health. However, interferences to the nervous system can disrupt the transmission of controlling nerve impulses. For example, a common interference to the nervous system is the twenty-four moving bones of the spinal column. A loss of normal motion or position of these bones can irritate or impair the function of the nervous system, therefore affecting your body’s ability to function well. This is why we believe a healthy spine = a healthy life!
Here’s where Chiropractors come in! Chiropractors aim to improve your nervous system primarily through chiropractic adjustments, focusing on the spine, skull and pelvis, to help remove any interference that may be impairing your health!
Healthy Spine = Healthy Life!
Why get chiropractic care?
There is a common misconception that chiropractors just deal with bad backs and they push bones back into place. Chiropractic is actually about maintaining your nervous system.
The nervous system controls practically all the functions within your body directly or indirectly, 24/7. This includes all those things you don’t need to think about like how many times your heart beats, or how to digest your last meal. Because of our lifestyles, stress, strains and old injuries, we can put stress or pressure on a nerve and whatever part of the body that nerve runs to is going to be affected. Only 10% of the nerves in your body actually register pain so sometimes you can have pressure or stress on a nerve for weeks, months and years without you actually being consciously aware that it’s there.
Unfortunately, during that time, your body will start to suffer and you become unwell. The basic philosophy of Chiropractic is that your body has an incredible ability to heal itself, given the right environment and no interference. By staying well adjusted and through our holistic approach of “Move Well, Eat Well & Think Well” you will be sure to experience an unprecedented level of health and vitality with Bonfire.
Your health and longevity are determined by how you are healing and NOT how you are feeling. How you are feeling and how you are healing are not necessarily related. In fact, how you feel can actually be one of the poorest ways to measure the true status of your health.
Conditions & symptoms patients commonly present with
Symptoms are messages from your body indicating that change is needed. It is best not to ignore them or cover them up with pain relieving medication. Pay attention to symptoms and always ask the question ‘why?’.
Your body has incredible ‘reserve’ capacities. It can absorb the enormous number of stresses you are exposed to in your everyday life and adapt to changes in your environment. It also compensates for areas that are not functioning well over long periods of time, and recovers from a huge variety of illness and accidents.
It is because of this extraordinary capacity that the symptoms of illness often develop only when your body simply cannot cope or compensate any more. Some common symptoms patients present include:
- Back pain
- Head aches
- Neck pain
- Chronic fatigue
Your first chiropractic visit
Your first visit with us is called an initial consultation.
When you first enter the Bonfire wellness centre, you will be greeted by our friendly staff and made to feel at home and comfortable.
Our staff will ask you to fill out our new patient information forms so we can gain as much information about you and your health so that your initial consultation can run as smoothly as possible.
You will then be introduced to one of our highly skilled Bonfire Chiropractors and their technical assistant who will take you through a series of specific questions to determine your level of health, your expectations, and your future health goals. This time will also be used to establish whether chiropractic is right for you.
After your history and goals have been discussed, a chiropractic examination will be performed to locate subluxations, a physical and neurological examination will also be performed. For adults radiographs are often taken so we can obtain a complete picture of your spinal health and subluxation patterns. Radiographs help the Chiropractors at Bonfire to rule out any more serious health concerns so that we can give you the very best recommendations for you and your health.
Yes. In fact, many elite athletes undergo regular chiropractic care to help improve their performance. This is because chiropractic has the following benefits:
- Reduces inflammation
- Boosts your immune system function
- Enhances pulmonary function
- Decreases mental and oxidative stress
- Relieves muscle tension
Naturally increases your energy levels
There is a possibility that you may feel a little sore after you have received chiropractic adjustment. However, this soreness is not major and can be described as similar to that associated with starting a new exercise program. Drinking plenty of water, using an ice pack, and engaging in light stretching after your first visit can help ease any discomfort to promote healing.
Chiropractic care is typically an ongoing process. Though this is often dependent on your condition as well as your overall goals. Some patients may choose only to seek chiropractic care when pain or symptoms arise whereas others desire a more preventative approach to their health. Regular visits to a Doctor of Chiropractic can assist you in achieving proper spinal function and health maintenance. It is, of course, up to you how often you would like to visit the chiropractor and if you would like your treatment to be of an ongoing nature or only during times where you are experiencing discomfort.
